Dementia Friendly Performance of Annie

with The Encore Theater

Theater FOR people living with dementia

This was a specially curated performance designed for those with dementia or any kind of neurodivergence who might not otherwise feel welcome in a traditional theater setting.

 

Total attendance - 175 (a sold-out show with a waiting list!)

​

​Volunteers were asked to solicit feedback from guests as they were leaving.

Here is what we heard:

"Everyone LOVED meeting and chatting with the cast after the show!"

​

"You really thought of everything."

​

"The therapy dog was a huge hit!"

​

"We just kept hearing about how special this opportunity was to people."

Although persons living with dementia were welcome to attend (and several did!), this event was designed to raise community awareness, promote understanding, and help end the stigma of dementia.

80% reported that their understanding of memory loss increased as a result of the event.​

Paper copies were also provided at the event, along with pre-addressed envelopes so that no one felt rushed to complete the survey.
